MGS Overview

If anyone is interested :D The gcx files are scripting data for events and whatnot as far as I can tell. The meshes are inside, for example, 'stg_mdl1.dar'. Likewise, the textures are inside 'stg_tex1.dar' etc. There is a build of unmass that deals very well with packing and unpacking the dar files. I've got textures fully documented(not complicated) and loading into a simulated VRAM straight from the dar as you can see in my most recent posts. As for the meshes, I wrote a program that reads the KMD files that are stored in the mdl dar files and exports them to obj files which pretty much any modeling program worth its weight is able to read. I haven't figured out how it deals with texturing yet, its kind of a mess. It's also been brought to my attention recently that the hzm files contain collision and radar data though I haven't done any work documenting them just yet.

  1. I've been working on remaking shadow moses in source, heres a preview. I would really like to export the stage for the whole game into a model so I can get a more accurate scale!

Keep working on it, so far so good!

  2. That's totally bad ass. Give me a little bit and I'll put together a model pack for you. There are little odds and ends missing but nothing major that I can tell. Unfortunately stuff still won't be textured but it should at least help get accurate scale.

bleh this is kind of a mess from the tower onwards. the sequences where enemies come forever and you travel a long distance like the tower up and the huge long elevator down are in a slightly different format so I kind of winged it. some sections are also missing, couldn't find them or they were such a mess I couldn't make sense of them. ocelots torture room, the pal card control room, the ocelot gun battle room at the beginning and mantis's room and maybe something else... should be enough to give you a general idea though.

    Thanks again!

  8. hello, I was trying to get the character models to make papercrafts out of them, like this. http://el-morenazo.deviantart.com/#/d51cks7
sadly I only have snake and Ocelot, ripped from a cutscene in MGS2, and other methods to rip the models have failed, so I wanted to know if you can get them.
    Pleeeeeease :)

  9. I never got that far. Mesh rigging is completely missing, so is texturing. There is a tool available to rip models from MGS2 to Milkshape format that is very good but I can't remember the name of it.
